Thanks for the congrats! Yesterday was a National holiday in the Netherlands. We visited a castle with a park they have turned into museum with a mix of very old and very modern art. It was a lovely day with lots of sun. We only had short moment with rain/thunder after we got back to my sons...

Yes. Ini Mini and Black were/are perfect mothers but the younger ones not so. Pearl is almost perfect but a bit skittish and Tintin became a bit skittish too. It seems the chicks learn to be afraid according to the behaviour of the mother. Janice is a very skittish hen and was too protective...

Last week: Ini mini, Janice and Kraai. Katrientje no longer cares for Tintin. Black is nice to him. Today: Tintin and his stil caring momma Pearl. This is the first time I try to keep a cockerel in a separate and dark cage with a his own automatic door. A little bit further away from the...

I just ordered a Chickencozy auto door for my mini coop for Tintin, my bantam chick (cockerel). He should stay in this tiny coop in the morning to avoid that he is going to make too much noise in the neighbourhood before 8.30 on weekdays and 9.30 in the weekends. Hope this auto chicken door wil...

She still laid a few eggs this spring. So maybe next year if she really stopped laying … Thank you all for the congrats. I gave Ini mini lots of extra treats today. Banana and organic bread with seeds bc it fell on the ground and Ini mini was the first one around. A few tiny pieces crust of a...

Today is Ini mini’s birthday 🎈 🎂 🎁! ^^ Here she is with her daughter Janice and Kraai in the background. Tintin and the 2 mothers are doing great. So fun to see them walk around in the garden. Tintin is copying his mothers behaviour and seems to get educated thoroughly. Auntie Black joining...

Tintin with Pearl free ranging. We had 2 days with ‘marvellous’ summer weather that ended yesterday late afternoon with thunder, lightning, hail and lots of rain. I knew it was expected so I closed the chickens in before 5pm. When I checked later in the night I found the 2 mama’s and Tintin...

Today I opened up the gate between the two runs. The only one who is interested in chasing Tintin is Ini mini. But she doesn’t really hurt him and there are enough hiding places yo get away. As soon as I opened up to free range the two mothers and Tintin went to the area where we had a compost...

I let them free range a few hours. Here one mama was inside the run. The other mama Katrientje and Tintin were outside.

Yes, I want him to stay if he turns out to be a nice rooster. But… I don’t want to be so protective as if it had been a girl. And he has 2 mama’s to guard him now. Decided he can free range with his mama’s and the rest of the flock, even not supervised as long as we are out and about, in and...

2 of my hens did a hatch this spring. But it was cold in March and the outcome was very poor. The plan for 2 hens that lay before winter failed. Maybe I keep the little cockerel instead and give it another try next year with my own eggs. Or I might buy another clutch with hatchery eggs in...

Sorry, thats really impossible. If you want to skip the hatch from last year you can start around February of this year. When I’m considering an early hatch with broodies for 2 reasons: I like to have 2 pullets that start to lay when the oldies stop at the start of the moult before winter...

Last year year I bought organic grower pellets (made for broilers). But the mill stopt to supply it. This year I bought organic chick/broiler crumble from another supplier. There is very little choice in organic chick feed where I live unless one wants to pay exorbitant prices.

A long way to travel. I have New Zealand on my bucket list for about two decades now (since the Lord of the rings movies). But nowadays I doubt I will ever get there. Such a long way to get there. And I’m always surprised how beautiful many nearby places are.

Hope you feel better today Shad! It must be difficult to care for chickens living 30 - 60 minutes away from where you live. And I highly respect you doing so. I learned to know a bit of your character over the past two years and don’t mind all that you vent your thoughts the way you do. As I...

Yes, nicely said. Being friends with chickens is something else as being friendly or enjoying them to be around. I love these categories/thoughts. Maybe not perfect, but there is no beed to be perfect! Thanks for your contribution. This is very true if you ask me. I would understand this...
