Happy you could say this out loud. I hope it helps lighten that burden. Guilt, even guilt not rooted in reality, haunts us all to one degree or another. I have my own demons but it's a powerful moment when you feel safe enough to share, thanks Phil, we are here for you!
It's like everything else... The more involved you get, the more you learn, the more you look for in your birds. Your expectations change. Same with dogs and horses. My first horse was a small half Arab pony, my last is my dream mare but I got her for a measly $700 as a yearling because I knew...
It's because they are sold as Ameracaunas. The feed stores label them as such as do many hatcheries. Don't know why they are not held accountable for misrepresenting what they are selling....
I had such a hard time finding true Ameraucanas. I finally found someone showing 4-H and bought my first two pullets (which ended up being a pair) they are a nice color variation with my BCM flock and I am real excited to have just hatched 5 blue and a splash. I want some wheatens and have 2...
It's MUCH easier to lurk and laugh. I swear I think texts and emails should just be voice recordings as to be able to hear the intended humor... Or lack thereof
I have 2 1588s one with a Turner and one older one for hatching. I like them and have had pretty good luck. The only problem I have is keeping the humidity up. I purchased a Brinsea with a humidity pump but not sure it was worth the cost yet as I haven't used it for a hatch yet
Almost? It's like a constant infomercial!! Egg color is impossible to judge online, some breeders don't post ANY pictures of their stock, some never stop. I tried REAL hard to hatch some LP eggs, I still have some in the bator for the next two weeks but that is where I got this rumpless BCM.
Very good deal! I will have to keep that in mind. Hatching eggs have half driven me crazy but I am done on New Years.... Unless of course I win some or until I get the shipment of Cuckoo Araucana eggs that I am on a list for!
Ameraucanas are great. I had a REALLY hard time finding purebred stock. I have 10 in the bator in day 20 today ;) I have a couple Isbars and Rumpless Araucanas too, I LOVE fancy colored eggs. I am gonna take the rumpless BCM Roo and put in a pen on frizzled, naked necks and work on some fun...
I am just starting my Black Copper Marans breeding flock. It has been quite an experience, both in $ and BS. Careful research has been the key... That and sitting back and watching the behavior of breeders in FB groups and chats. I have a $200 RUMPLESS BCM from a hatch from one of these breeders...
No one you would know... Local country bands. We have several friends that have musical talents. We spend a lot of time using them as a good excuse to eat out and grab a drink or three!
