They are your birds. Experiment with them to find what works for you best. I wouldn't count on getting much meat from Polish though. They are ornamental and not considered a meat bird.
The cockerels get "crazy hair" and the pullets get puff ball crests. Saddle feathers come in pretty early on these birds, and wattles appear fairly early with them as well. However, they are more difficult to sex than some other birds. Don't be surprised if one of your cockerels lays an egg...
I do! I am putting eggs in the incubator this week from my Gold Laced Rooster and my White Crested Red Hen. She doesn't lay but about a dozen eggs per year, so I haven't had any from her since last spring. The ones I hatched last year could have been a complete fluke, but all of the cockerels...
My Polish are in a mixed flock. We have all sizes ranging from Silkies to Brahmas. They all get along just fine and no crests are bothered. Our flock is about 25 hens/pullets and 5 cockerels/roosters.
My Polish are the most comical birds we have! Our rooster makes so many different sounds and the girls all respect and follow his leadership. He is hands down the best rooster we have ever had.
I have a GL rooster, and a white crested golden hen. Their offspring have sreaky black/ gold coloring. If I cross the pullets back to the GL rooster will that clear up the streaking?
Our cockerels may squabble amongst themselves to see who is dominant, but never aggressive. If they do, they become stew. Also, flirting with females will not change an aggressive cockerel. He won't suddenly become nice when the testosterone kicks in.
They may be moulting right now. My girls are and they haven't layed in quite some time. Polish roosters should not be aggressive. If they are, they should become soup!
I have the hardest time sexing my Silkies and Polish. The saddle feathers have never let me down though! My Dark Brahmas are so easy to sex though. The males and females have different color feathers from about two weeks old. Oh how I wish my others were so easy to tell apart!
We didn't expect to like our Polish as much as we do. We absolutely adore them though! They are the funniest, most entertaining birds in our flock. Our WCG hen recently went broody and hatched a clutch that she is now raising. She usually lays between 4-5 eggs per week that are about a...
Here is a good example of the "droopy" feathers. No, this guy isn't mine, but I wish he was! From the newest pics you posted, I would lean toward pullet as well. See if you can get some pictures of the saddle feathers that are coming in. Look for iridescent, pointed feathers. If you find...
