    I-Have-Happy If you have a small area you might check out the All Purpose sand at home Depot. I'm not certain what river sand is like, but this sand, with small pebbles of various sizes is working in my small set-up. Good luck finding what you need.

    Isn't sand so much colder for them in the winter than shavings? I'd like to go to sand, but I can't imagine them snuggling in it on a bitter cold, MI day. Anyone have thoughts on this?

    PepsNick, I had pea gravel in a small dog potty area. Later, when I needed to lay cement, I was told pea gravel keeps the moisture trapped. I believe it, it was kinda stinky from the urine.
