My brother is in Lakewood and he's allowed 6. I don't know if there's a permit or not.

Canon City approved hens with a permit just a few months ago. $100 for permit, 8 hens allowed. Man am I happy we are in the county. But our next door neighbor is city. Can you imagine having 50 acres and not be allowed to have chickens? That was the case until a few months ago. I just don't...

Just came in from feeding the horses, mucking stalls and checking on the chicks. We just don't have room in this old farmhouse for a brooder so my 1 week old chicks are in the garage. They are all running around having fun and they seem to be plenty warm under the heat lamp. Wind isn't too bad...

Bracing for the storm. So glad my gang is locked in away from the storm. I can't believe I had to plug my water warmers in again. I thought we were beyond that. Stay safe everyone.

I love this group and the people in it. There's so much to learn, everyone uses their own techniques, and all of them are interesting. Thank you so much for all this information, and welcome to the group.

The interesting thing is I recently raised 4 Roos, 2 were pure Buff Brahma and 2 were Buff Brahma x RIR. The 2 crosses showed fairly early they were Roos. The pure BB grew no comb until much later. I could tell by their legs before their combs. My crosses are in the freezer, my pure BBs I still...

Yay thank you sooo much!! I knew there was a TSC in canon, just didn't know if it was worth the trip, but I'm thinking as long as I can make a huge list of stuff and buy it all at once it would be worth the trip. Thanks for the tip about Sweeney, I will contact them tomorrow, that is exactly...

Hello Chris. We do have a Tractor Supply in Canon City. Canon City is about 40 miles southwest of Colorado Springs. Also I would check with Sweeney Feed in Pueblo for the different things you're looking for like the wheat, etc. I believe Sweeney Feed will mix any kind of feed exactly the way you...

Oh yes, I'm familiar with them, in fact I quite like them except when they like my chicks.. I've been fortunate and I haven't lost any chickens to snakes, but I hope they're taking care of my gopher population in my hayfields. The bull snakes in Colorado are much more aggressive than the ones...

Yes, they are grass fed but we do finish them on alfalfa hay, that we grow, apples, squash & pumpkins. We Probably eat more beef than we should. I also process my extra Roos, can I say that here? (Ducking and running.)

We have Red and Gold Delicious, Jonathan, Winesap, Fuji, Cameo, Granny Smith, Gala, Rome Beautys, and Honey Crisp. My "kids" love the apples. We still have some in the cooler from last year. The apples you buy at the store all the way until harvest this fall will be last years apples. Properly...

As far as pruning apple trees, we're still pruning and we have an apple farm. So not really too late. Lost one of my day old Buff Brahmas. She was awfully small and listless. Poor little girl. She actually perked up after the Rescue Remedy but it didn't last. And WS, good job! Have a great...

How wonderful for the duck that it passed while in loving arms. It could have been in the water alone. I love to think of the bright side of things. :))

I think it looks wonderful. My sweetheart & I took the plunge of living together 6 months ago. (We both lost our spouses, of many years, in the last 4 years. We're not ready to say "I do" just yet, no matter how much our kids say they'll plan everything, just leave it up to them. ROFLMAO) My...

I have is sand mix. I've taken a portion of my yard that I had a corral before and I had a dirt sand mix there before. It is in a protected area from the wind so I imagine if exposed to the wind it would blow around quite a bit. I'm building a new coop now and want to use the deep litter method.
