Just make sure protein is good on the feed, oyster shell or egg shells for calcium. As long as everyone's trimmed, rooster too, I can't think of anything else.
thursday the 10th is your likely hatch date, the 11th if you count the next day as day one. I would lock down the 7th to be safe.
Something was wrong with the egg, or embryo MHO. Sometimes we just do not know what causes an egg to quit. Health of the hen and rooster, ages of both and so many other things can contribute.
After hatching so many I still wonder, why? But resign myself to if the chick is meant to thrive it will.
I struggle with it too and this is my 4th year incubating! I have made myself wait til day 14, or at least day 10. I usually have my cabinet pretty full by spring so it gets busy, but soooo exciting seeing the babies swimming in the eggs!
