I just lost an entire hatch this way. Make sure your incubator is out of drafts and add either paper towels or a jar with a sponge, something to keep humidity up. I lost humidity twice, it dropped to 16 and lost the whole hatch. I'm sure more experienced people will have better Ideas for you...
I added a fan so it is circulated air and the plugs were out. I have the incubator in a small bathroom and had covered the heat vent. The heat/air vent got uncovered and by the next morning humidity was 16% (hence dh offered to buy new incubator)
I've never hatched in the winter. I was really...
Thanks, I did see 1 egg move. Maybe I'll get a late arrival. I think the second humidity drop on day 13 did me in. There was still movement in 5 I could see at day 14.
I Think you are right about thermometers and hydrometers. My hydrometer wasn't accurate and I don't think its consistant so its hard to determine how far off. I did check it before last hatch but I don't think it is reading the same this hatch. Thanks for your help!
How long should I wait on...
Thanks. I do want to do a homemade but that can wait til later. I have most of what I would need. I like the visibility with the incuview Do you know how well it holds humidity? Thanks for your advise!
I know it was me with this hatch the eggs arrived in good shape for shipped eggs. I was sure...
I was considering the Brinsea octagon 20 and had noticed the Janoel 8 48. I've read the Hovabator was better than LG but I would like to get something that is not styrofoam and stable humidity. Have you had any experience with the Janoel or do you think I should just get the Brinsea? Thanks for...
I'm at day 21, no pips no peeps. I think I killed my hatch. Air cells were too large at day 14 but there was movement in several. I increased humidity and aircells looked better by lockdown. My LG can't keep up with humidity changes. It's not to offend I use heat where I live but there was a few...
My eggs go into lockdown this evening and this is the first time I have incubated in cartons. I'm not sure weather to hatch in cartons or remove and place on side. Any opinions on which would be better?
6 where clear. 5 of those I had marked as having pretty bad air cells. The other 2 were early quitters. They both look to be about 5-7 days developed.
I have not noticed any bad odor. I have been having low humidity at times. Weather changes here in Florida can be dramatic this time of year and...
Good Luck!
I'm on day 15 on my shipped cream legbar eggs. I pulled 8 last night. I'm sure I need to pull more but I don't have the candling expertise to pull anything I'm not possitive about. I'm separating according to what I think but I'm afraid to pull in case I'm wrong. How can something...
I was actually wondering about that just the other day. I dry hatch where I live due to high humidity but yours is higher.
I also add water if it drops to 20%. I did set one egg this time that was porous and the air cell was too big at 7 day candling but the others are fine. I was surprised at...
I did candle a few just to check air cells on day 4.Today is day 7 for me so I will candle later.
That really help to stabilize mine too.
Good luck with your hatch!
