So I'm awake and laying in bed right and my window is cracked just a little and I hear the distinct sound of my rooster crowing.
Noooo! lol
At least he isn't really loud yet. i only heard him cause the window is opened (apparently he's been doing this now since Friday). Time to invest in...
My hen turned roo update. He's looking quite pretty and has a great temperament still. No crowing yet thank goodness though my neighbor is disappointed he hasn't started yet.
Jealous. Mine aren't laying and I've had to buy eggs. The pullers aren't laying yet (of which one turned out to be a too) and the broody who hatched them hasn't started again. the only one that was stopped due to winter and molting.
We feed during the day and never inside the coop. We bring out a dog bowl full in the morning and will scatter half on the ground for them and leave the other half in the bowl. The left overs in the bowl go back inside the garage at night when we lock up the chickens.
The place I got my...
At least he'll be pretty.
Another question.... My neighbor informed me they have be trapping mice, something we've never had a problem with until my chickens came along. Any idea on things to use to repel them?
Well....crap. Time to order a no crow collar. He hasn't started crowing yet thank goodness, but I don't want to take that chance living in a city where Roos are not allowed.
Okay so I'm not sure if my chickens are both hens or if one is a roo. I was out this morning cleaning out the coop with my daughter and one of my new babies has a longer tail set than the other girls. Since I know nothing about chickens *lol* thought I'd post photos to get opinions
Chicken in...
No crow collar
What are your thoughts? A friend tagged me in a post regarding this on Facebook. It's intriguing enough to where I might try it, but would hate to get a rooster and then get rid of him because it didn't help...
Hello everyone!!! How's everyone and are you ready for the cold!? I'm ready for the brief bit of snow the news is saying we're "supposed" to get tomorrow morning. Momma hen is still being super attentive to the chicks and is still sitting on them at night and not roosting with the other hen...
We made her move off the nest. I've went out to check on them a couple more times since we put her back and she's back on the eggs diligently. We're on day 24, and I dont have an incubator. I'll leave them until tuesday and see what develops. If nothing, I'll throw together a cheap quick...
We took the chicks and momma out for some supervised play time/exercise before the storm rolled in (and it gave me an excuse to candle the remaining eggs). Out of the 6 left, 2 were duds and were completely transparent. Tossed those two, so just four remaining eggs waiting to hatch.
Here's...
I commend everyone raising your own meat chickens. Lord know I couldn't bring myself to kill one of the birds I raised, nor would I even know where to begin.
As requested….. It took a bit for them to come out this morning so I could snap photos.

And just for giggles, here are both of them peeking out from under mom's wing
