    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

This is going to be the final post in this thread, because anyone who was going to hatch has long since hatched. I just wanted to post for prosperity's sake that after 2 weeks, Pistachio is still alive and well! (And finally post that picture in good light I promised) They're a fair bit...

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

Adorable little ball of curiosity and vigor. I had been worried that they'd be weak from being stuck and unable to move in the egg, but Pistachio is wandering around the brooder like they own the place. I'll get some proper pictures in better light soon once I'm sure they've fully recovered...

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

Pistachio pictures. They're doing pretty good, but they're still kinda wobbly. I'm going to mix them up some electrolyte water. Can't hurt, and I'm sure they could use it. *Edited slightly to reduce the red from the brooder lamp

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

Pistachio is now able to consistently roll themselves onto their feet. Their balance is wack, and I still think their foot might have curled toes, but they're ungracefully moving about the brooder now. They've still got a small bit of membrane on their head that I couldn't quite get off, but I...

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

Okay, we were about to go to bed and checked on Pistachio one more time. Their yolk was absorbed and weren't squirming as much so I decided it was time to interfere. I removed the remainder of the shell and then started on the membrane. I wet down the membrane with very warm water and held him...

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

I think they're definitely shrink wrapped. They're going to need more help, but they're definitely still absorbing yolk, so I'm giving them more time before I interfere any more. I think their head has stuck to the membrane and can't move it. So I've applied warm water and coconut oil trying to...

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

It's been between 24 and 30 hours since Pistachio pipped, and my need to interfere finally kicked in. I peeled some of the egg shell away near Pistachio's face. They were definitely facing the wrong direction. Their foot is also way up by their face, so I suspect they weren't able to maneuver...

I was really rooting for them. I may have to get some Jubilees in the future, they're such cute birbs!

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

In less depressing news, Pistachio is still chirping away and I can see their beak moving around. They took a long nap today where they were clearly breathing but not chirping much, but they're cheeping a bit more now. I suspect they're still absorbing the yolk and may take a while longer to...

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

Some sobering news. After 48 hours I figured it was time to take Vanilla Bean out and see if an assist was needed or if it was already too late. And as I suspected, Vanilla Bean didn't make it. (I also took out Neopolitan, my other Jubilee Orpington, and similarly no luck.) I had really...

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

Also, I now realize that because the angle the picture was taken at, it looks like they pipped at the wrong end entirely, but this isn't the case. They're just about perfectly halfway down. I still think malposition, and they may be facing the wrong way entirely, I can't quite tell

Forgot to attach the picture, how could I be so cruel?

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

So I went out for a few hours to run some errands, and I came back to a huge pip from Pistachio! Little overachiever here! The pip is really low down though, but since they pipped such a huge hole, I was able to shine a light in there and see them breathing! And while writing this, I've heard...

Ooh, I'll have to try that!

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

Okay, so morning update. Still no change on the pip, and it has been over 36 hours now. I've added a hot wet washcloth to boost humidity again, but I could still hear chirping, so I'm resisting the urge to interfere just a bit longer. I also clearly saw Pistachio wiggle, so I wonder if it's...

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

Last update before I go to bed (very early for me, bit long day). It's been over 24 since Vanilla Bean first pipped, and it hasn't changed appearance in any way. I'm trying not to panic until at least 36 hours (sometimes chicks will just magically pop out overnight like that), but I do worry...

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

I've heard one of them doing a little chirp chirp, but it's quiet again now. No further progress yet on Vanilla Bean. It seriously takes all my strength not to interfere immediately. I'm home alone and no one's here to stop me, so I have to stop myself. Self control is not my strongest trait.

Pistachio wobbled! 😍 The excitement is going to end me.

    Bingo Egg Hatch-a-Long

Some excitement again, Vanilla Bean has pipped! 😮 Maybe I've had the temperature up too high considering two early birds. Hopefully Vanilla Bean will be more successful than Neopolitan 😭

Yep. Just peeled back the shell in that spot and right underneath was a little beak. I don't even know when they first pipped, I wasn't expecting any of them to pip for quite a while. No movement at all. I'll have to do an eggtopsy later. It seems they just never got past the pip.
