Also, I was there once when they were stocking the chicks and I was able to inspect their shipping packages. There were a LOT of dead chicks in their mailing boxes. It was sad.
I bought them from Rural King and they said they only use hoovers. But hoovers contracts out, don't they? It's not all under one roof and set of eyes. I think that's why their chicks are of such varying breed quality, and why there are so many mysteries and pure breeds that aren't bred true...
Here is 'Austin' now. He was such a good surprise. My daughters favorite chicken was 'Gilbert', a porcelain D'uccle. He was murdered by a rampaging rooster last year. So now that we happened to get another D'uccle bantam cockerel she is so pleased.
So in checking hoovers again, they don't have Spangled, so it'll have to be a black breasted red. As for #4, RIR bantam, they don't have those. Maybe it was a different chick from another bin? The only others I can remember were white leghorns and rainbow dixies, all seperated. Usually they have...
#1 seemed so unique, I'm really bummed. I've never had a RIR...didn't even know they did bantams. Not sure if hoovers has that kind of bantam though. I'll double check.
