It may take three years before newly planted asparagus is ready for even a small harvest. it's longer term than most veggies!
And one of our dogs loved the stuff, and cleaned us out completely.

It's too soon to be sure about how we can bring birds to Chickenstock June 29th. If shows are cancelled, we still might be able to bring birds as requested, and keep them in our cars/ trucks, or on plastic under carriers outside. Or something.

No issues here, may it stay that way! We will manage a tighter ship again, and hope to avoid disaster. Glad we don't have cattle any more, limiting visitors, and we do have many fewer wild geese this year. A very good thing!
May all our critters stay healthy!

I'd love to have bantam SS, but really don't have room, at least right now. And it's great that the bantam roosters tend to be nice, makes me want them even more!

Half of the cockerels, of course the smaller birds, were jerks...
The cows are slightly ill and recovering. Their milk is not going into the food chain, and regardless, pasturization kills this virus, and other pathogens, so safe to drink and use in cheese, etc.

We are all concerned! The Texas herd, at least was thought to be infected from wild birds. Then some animals from that first herd moved to Michigan, before the cows in Texas became obviously ill. The newest infected herds, don't know yet. Wild birds, bringing in virus on boots and tires, all...
Last night at 8:30, saw the first frog crossing our road, probably a green frog. And this morning, a first turtle, probably a Blandings, I helped cross the road near here. Time to be alert for frogs and especially turtles!

Is everyone outside? It's been really quiet here, just saying hello this beautiful Saturday!
Any of you driving toward the eclipse Monday? We're going to try it, can't miss this opportunity, so close. We'll be packing food, drinks, everything I can think of, and plan to be patient with...
