It's been a while, but thought you'd want to see what the next gen looks like...like you said, so many colors! I think there are 2 fawn/white, 2 blue/white, 1 black/white, and 2 brownish (maybe dusky?). A veritable rainbow! :)
LOL - it would sure be a lot more useful if the color difference manifested earlier! I've been hoping to get some eggs from this group so I can hatch them...will post an update if/when I do.
I'm pretty sure there are at least 2 ducks and 3 drakes based on voices (but that leaves 4 unknown). The boys sound just like their Pekin dad...and the girls are super loud, like Runner mom. lol
The weather has not been cooperative for good photos, but the sun finally made a brief appearance this afternoon, so here's what I snapped:
If you look at the one standing to the immediate right of and slightly behind Runner mama, the chest coloration has a brownish cast. Anyone else see it...
I know, pretty weird, huh? At first, I thought it was mud, but when I got a better look, it's not. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow - those guys are pretty skittish and tend not to pose for pics.
Update: the ducklings are almost 12 weeks old now, and some of the blue is actually morphing into brown. I spotted a duck with brown on her chest (it changes to blue as it goes up the side of her torso) today during evening feeding, and then saw that a couple of others have the same coloring...
You're getting at least 5 duck eggs a day and they started laying at 4 months??Your girls are amazing!!
Rats! Dad (Pekin) is in a brooder by himself while his bumblefoot is being treated. None of the scovies has ever had bumblefoot, so this was new to me...I was scovy-only, too, until a few...
Your Runners and Buffs are laying? I'm envious...I know I'll get plenty of eggs come spring, but duck eggs are my hands-down favorite. I keep hoping the Runner mama will start laying again, but I've yet to see anything...even a few duck eggs would be nice...
LOL!! They do wear hats, don't they? Some have berets, some are wearing bombers.
I've been trying to identify ducks vs drakes and read that for Runners, the girls are the loud ones. There are at least a few loud ones in that group! The Muscovies give them a look like they're thinking "what in...
My Indian Runner/Pekin crosses are now almost 8 weeks old. Mom (Runner) is fawn and white - dad is white (of course) - but the ducklings are gray (blue?) and white. I know Pekin crosses can show some unexpected colors...will these guys stay this color?
