I was sure Veronicasmom was insane getting ducks, but through a strange course of events I ended up with a couple of muscovies, two that look a lot like hers, I realized how much I like them. So I guess I was worried. Now, I just might try a few chickens if I get brave.

Ok, so should have listened to big sister. Duck layed an egg today! All clean and pretty. She (sister, not duck) told me that the same happened with one of her ducks and she just waited it out. I am still weirded out by the dirty vent, but again, have to listen to the voice of experience...

Have a female Muscovie, not sure of her age, but don't think she is old, that has a perpetually dirty vent area. She is happy, active and alert. Eats great and seems to be pooping. She never swims so she never gets cleaned off. Plus all my other ducks are laying and I don't think she is...
