I have a question.... Shoot we are going to get this whole thread hopping again. I did lurk and read the entire thread, but if this was covered I don't remember it. Can anyone think of another breed or variety of a breed with a broad range of color?
Here is the quote from Walt: I take it...
Hello Everyone, I hope the week is going well. Congratulations on a productive Quarterly Meeting. Thank you so much for posting it! That was really appreciated.
I know ChicKat, was trying to wrap up this thread, but I thought I would post one last set of thoughts, after listening to the...
Thank you Walt, this was a mind clearing perspective for me to view and it makes perfect sense from the APA, point of view, which is what we are talking about here.
I have a different perspective, which is not relevant to the SOP. I do not consider myself a breeder, I consider myself a "Hobby...
It has been stated here, how little of a great chicken is about the color. However, this conversation is regarding potential color, comb, "Alternatives:... Or do we need/want Alternatives. :) So, I for one want to see the color debate continued and resolved. I do not like the "White" look...
I completely agree based on the winners, but also based on most of the comments in this thread. Walt has said their maybe some "range of color" allowed, but not a huge range. So, I would love to see his input on this. @Walt
Thanks for the feedback, I suddenly find myself not just watching my chickens, but noticing every feather and line, color in the shade and in the sun. Does she always stand like that? I am not sure I really wanted to know my chickens... this well. lol. I have 10 LB hens, the one with the...
To keep the color conversation going. These four hens are all right about 1 year old, they have brown feathers vs. gray and what I think is a dark salmon breast. You can't hurt my feelings, they are chickens, and I promise not to tell them what you say... 2 have large crests, which blend in...
Thank you for showing how he is aging, by the way, I like him, he is similar to the color trends in my boys. I thought someone else told me the white tail feathers were a DQ, but I know they can come and go.
I will take a shot, and then expect to be corrected. It will be a decent test... His Saddle and Hackles are a close match, and definitely to my eye look Cream. I can't tell if any of his tail feathers are actually white, but near the top some of them do not have great barring. (Is that a...
I am pretty sure I read a post from Walt early on stating the reference to Leghorns should be eliminated and the type should be described instead. Just pointing this out as it was a while back and might have been forgotten or missed.
Okay, I totally get it. So, really the problem is ethical with breeding vs. the show. Which doubtful somebody would breed it once, show it and cull it. So, I get your points... Totally.
However, is it cheating to get to a "Type" with a different route. Just curious. At first glance it would only be unethical if one was selling something which wouldn't breed correctly. I would just like to hear why it is cheating. (Don't worry I have no ability to make any fake birds. I just...
Thank you all, this part of the conversation and the review of the birds ChicKat posted was especially helpful for me. For a few pages there I was getting more confused. I also thank those of you who commented on my birds. I think I can live with where this seems to be headed. :) Thanks...
Thank you very much both for your opinion, and keeping it down to my level. :) I hope I get more feedback. Regarding the "other rooster' labeled as my first rooster, his color is too dark? And too much Chestnut? Which is why I selected Sunny over him. Most of the feedback I received was...
I am in over my head in the conversation, but I am learning a lot as we go. So, I have already posted a picture of my rooster which provided me with some great feedback and education. Please forgive as I write my opinion in "lay men's" terms.
If I read the recent comments correctly the APA...
In the early days of my flock, I had some SLW and considered breeding them. I read you could not raise an excellent roo and an excellent pullet from the same breeding pen. That was the end of the SLWs for me. Maybe to early to tell for the legbars.
