I'm getting two Nigerian dwarf wethers in June. They will be my first goats so I am asking the same questions you have been. This thread has been very helpful! I think I will be going with electrified fence as we have coyote, bobcat, fishers, etc. I want to allow them to come and go from the...
Picked up some goat toys today..
Another question too.... we are using my old coop for a temporary goat shelter. Now for the chickens I had put in a wooden floor to help make it predator proof. But I am wondering if I should rip out the wood and bring it back down to dirt floor?
I am...
I know I am not too keen on the butchering part. But I really want my family to become more self reliant and hate all the junk they pump into commercial foods. We will see how it goes.
I will have to take pictures when the fencing is done.
So I think I have it figured out!
Fencing : nonclimbing horse fence, 12.5 gauge, 2x4 holes. Three wooden rails of 2x6s: Top, bottom, and lower middle.
Oberhasali bred to boer is the goat I have coming. We will eat the kid. (Boy that sounds mean) Anyway.... second goat,(next year)...
Is 728 square feet enough outside room for two goats(and kid) through winter and spring? I am thinking this will be my main area, and next summer I can make two pens coming off original one and rotate between the two.
THESE ARE NOT MINE.
Do you think this would be a good fence? This is kinda what I have been thinking of.
Also I just saw a goat feeder made out of a tote.(pintrest :) ) Has anyone tried this?
sorry, I guess my first post was misleading. But I put "a goat" because technically I am only getting one....and borrowing another. Next summer is when I plan to but one.
I have not really thought much about the worming schedule yet. I guess I was thinking it would be like horses? I will find out what she is doing.
My friend will be trimming the goats feet before I get her and said that I should trim about two months later. I have been looking at hoof shears...
Oh! The building I am putting them in has a door on the south side. So do I leave that open at all times or do you lock them up every night like chickens?
Thanks for the information! I did not even think to ask my friend what she has been feeding them... just got excited! I will ask her tomorrow. Maybe she will let me buy a couple bales from her to transition the goat over.
And do not worry, she will not be alone, that's why I am borrowing...
Yeah! I am getting a goat! It is going to be an Oberhasali goat. The person I am getting it from, is keeping her for a couple cycles to make sure she will be bred. So she will be coming to my house sometime in December.
So I will be having a few questions as I have never owned a goat...
