It is a black snake, I assume it is harmless, but maybe not so to my broody setting on eggs. I will see if the mothballs work. I was not aware that snakes had such a keen sender of smell.

Hi all, We have a black snake that is hanging around our chicken coop. I have tried to move it but it keeps coming back. My question is, are black snakes a threat to chickens ? Also, is this a situation where I may need to kill the snake. I don't want To kill unless it is necessary. Thanks
