Could not have said it better....I feel like you and I are the same person LOL! Love my Marans roo, Colors are stunning.... Spend too much time and money on the quest for breeding the birds that lay the deepest colors....frustrated, always, especially with my terrible Marans hatch rate...

Pretty eggs! I really think egg color depends on the roo, and how blue the egg was that that rooster came from. I have done SBELS twice now with two different roos---the roo I have now I hatched myself from a pretty blue egg and the SBEL's are laying much bluer than they did with the last roo.

Good to know, thanks for the info! I'll watch these as they develop and see if it works this time. Two seasons ago I tried and and they all had light legs even as adults. Maybe this batch will be different, it is a new roo. His legs have some slate, not as much as the black and Blue Am's...

The darker smaller ones are wheaten ameraucana, the big lighter blue ones are SBEL I have never gotten sexed birds based on shanks, I use a Wheaten Ameraucana Roo from an amazing breeder, and have done them twice now expecting this to happen and it hasn't! Is it because I am using Wheaten?

I've only had the SBEL's and they are the best thing ever (to me) lol. I have not tried the sapphires though. I have just short of a hundred birds and there were days this winter when I went out in the below zero weather and got only 8-9 eggs and every single one was a huge SBEL egg. They do...

Typically the SBEL chick comes from a "pure" or "true" Ameraucana (not EE) roo over a leghorn hen. If a legbar is used they are called Sapphires :D At least around the area where I live, not sure if it is different across the country :D

They are my favorite bird of all my chickens. And that's saying something I have over 100 birds. They lay giant baby blue eggs and after they are a year old they get huge, don't fit in the carton. Bigger than their leghorn moms more often than not. My SBEL's are the only breed right now that...

The ones with the CCL Daddy are typically called Sapphires, they sell a lot of those where I am at. They turn oout really cute! I have SBELS from a Blue Wheaten Am Dad and a WLH Mom. They all turn out white with blue or black freckles...love them, my favorite bird. I have my own Wheaten Roo...
