Almost scared of my own yard...

I am not a fan of relocation. Prevention is the best medicine. I'm stepping up on security and keeping a careful eye on the animals. Hopefully the cat won't cause any problems, but I won't hesitate to take action if he does. I could just see someone kissing a raccoon... It's what you do if you...

Almost scared of my own yard...

Thank you for the advice. I have decided to let the cat be. We are backed up to an area with very low, mowed grass, so that isn't a problem. Our fence line is relatively clear, but we do have many large oak trees, which we suspect are the cat's hiding areas during the day. I would try the...

Perhaps. But both neighbors and us have small dogs, as well as three large ones on the neighbors' side. So they are the main concern. Regards, Leaf

I'd get a wildlife rehabber to take him to a reserve, not relocate. It is torturous for the animals, as they are moved to a new area with no way to easily find food. They have no mate with them, and if they have kits, they cannot feed them. If you relocate close by, they will return. I am not...

Almost scared of my own yard...

Been trying to live with the local wildlife and haven't lost any animals yet unless a couple of fish were nabbed from the pond. And this is with a very large family of raccoons, a bobcat, and coyotes constantly moving through the main yard. But bears.... Just glad we don't have them here...

Caught the cat on film on the game cam again. Not sure what to think. :/ Regards, Leaf

Almost scared of my own yard...

I don't own any chickens right now, so I'm mostly worried about our new quail and pond, which are relatively safe. This bobcat's been roaming the neighborhood for years now, and hasn't caused any trouble yet. If I does though, I'm sure it will be taken care of quickly, whether by residents or...

I suppose this is what I'll do for the time being. You just can't take risks with the little ones. Haven't seen the cat since, though we did catch him on our game cam. As long as all he is doing is killing wild birds, he is welcome. He was here first. Regards, Leaf

I'm debating on whether I should trap it or have Animal Control do the deed. Usually I live and let live, but with young children, a small dog, and plenty of outdoor animals, I'm a little worried. I don't plan on killing the bob, but perhaps AC can remove it to a rehab center. Opinions?

Well I figured out who it is. We set up our hunting camera before we left town, then came back to a thirty second video of a bobcat walking past the camera...

Well, it was sort of a joke when I talked about the hunters...and it states clearly on the link you posted that wolves kill few people compared to other carnivores. I'd take them over coyotes anyday. Coyotes, that are perfectly healthy, have killed people around here, some attacks quite recent.

I do wish we had wolves here though...may help keep the coyote and stray animal population down and they are such amazing animals...

Well, there's one predator I don't have to deal with.

Well, we haven't had any more sightings of the cat as far as I know, but my dog was very edgy and growling often at the thick bushes yesterday....

Well, the cat has been around for a while, it didn't come during hunting season. I think it is simply taking advantage of the food left on the shore. I've studied animal behavior patterns in the nearby fauna and have noticed that despite the many trash cans left out at night, the raccoons who...

Almost scared of my own yard...

Why does it seem like a sick cat? I did find eaten carcasses of the coots that are hunted by the lake, but I suspected coyotes. Now I'm not so sure. Target season doesn't end for a while here, in fact, hunters are around all year. I am wondering if the hunters have a license to shoot a mountain...

Oh don't worry, Lakota will not be locked up, he's the best deterrent there is. Trial and Error, that is absolutely terrifying. Luckily no bears here, but I'm mostly scared of the hunters shooting crazily behind our house. They take multiple shots at flying birds just a few feet away from our...

Almost scared of my own yard...

Right now I am in the process of making a DIY quail pen for my new birds. I'm a little worried about the lion or bobcat sneaking around here though. With young children in the house and many outdoor animals, I do not want to attract such a dangerous animal if it is in fact a mountain lion. I...

We are urban. We have had raccoon problems for a while now since our neighbors were feeding them. We were talking with some friends last night who live across the lake. The husband mentioned that their neighbors have seen at least half a dozen bobcats in the last few years, he even has a picture...
