As far as I know, yes it is. Both coffee grounds and sweet PDZ are very good for composting.
I guess another benefit for the coffee grounds is you can request them from a cafe and get it for free!
Yeah, it smells nice like coffee! It’s also compostable, and you can scoop clean it like you can with sand. Plus up-cycling, especially if you can get it bulk from a cafe.
It’s the caffeine that is toxic and it can cause pretty serious complications. I’m not sure exactly how toxic or in what quantities but there is still caffeine in used coffee grounds. It affects calcium absorption and organ systems in chickens. I’m not sure if it will definitively kill them but...
No no I’m pretty sure people use coffee grounds. It’s an excellent choice except for the fact that the chickens shouldn’t eat it. I don’t trust mine (or rather, I don’t trust one particular hen) otherwise I would use it myself.
Coffee grounds are toxic to chickens so if you use them you have to make sure you don’t have any curious eaters in your flock, or that they just sample it and don’t go to town on it.
