I committed. My SIL is now getting rid of her rooster and will be taking this little handsome booger for her flock. He was so cute last night. I left the new girls alone to figure out getting in the coop for bedtime by themselves and he guided them all in with his little noises. He got them all...

So, we're all sure then? I agree, but I could sure use the affirmation. I want to go ahead and give him to my sister if we're all certain at this point. Then she can integrate him easier and it'll be easier for me to let him go. He's a sweet little thing.

I haven't seen the little guy crow since. 🤷‍♀️ I seriously have no idea what his/her deal is. 😂 I spent several hours watching them, I can't tell. One of my big girls tries to crow sometimes. 🥴

    I still haven't decided. 🤔 There's still a tiny chance that it's a pullet I think. Maybe. *Shrug* 🤣

I have now witnessed the barnie making the crowing attempts. Good news though! My SIL will take him if he's a cockerel! So I'll be able to keep taking photos of him, etc. I'm going to keep him for a little bit longer. Just in case. But I think we can all agree that it's probably a cockerel.

I went to put the little girls away for the night and SOMEONE made a silly crow attempt. I didn't look up in time to see who it was! Ah! But based on the posture of the Barnie, I'm thinking that he's the one who did it! These little birds are very attached to each other.... they miss each other...

Totally. Thank you so much. Me too. I'm not one to take a break... I do not like to sit around when there's always work to be done. I think I burned myself out yesterday, I moved about 6 cubic yards of fresh mulch from the front street side to all of my planting areas in the very back yard. 7+...

And Privett is also on the fence about gender. That's funny. "It kind of resembles a male, but we're not sure" No comment from them on the red feathering at this point. We'll give this little chicken another week and see how the feathers are looking then! I'm sure I'll post more photos...

That's a pretty girl. Yeah I feel like mine has a comb that is bigger than hers already; I sent an email off to Privett Hatchery this morning to see what they think about the red on the back, wing coverts, the breast coloring, and the overall development compared to their breeding birds and...

    Barnevelder gender tracking. 3 - 9 weeks

Yeah this is by far my most complicated chicken experience. I've spent many, many, many hours searching the Internet for photos of barnevelders of ALL ages and still come up with thinking "Dang, who knows?!"... It's been really fun though. I still have a hard time with the waddles and comb...

The thing I am now thinking about is that Australorps lay earlier in life. Like my SOEs. So maybe the development on the Australorp is normal. I have no idea. Lol. But then this photo of peaches made me laugh so hard. 😆 Ok ok ok, back to tracking the barnevelder.
