I have a plastic chair I can put on it's side. What I'm noticing today is that the RIR's aren't the slightest bit intimidated or humble. They're right at the chain link all strutting and proud. Pops said they got rid of these 2 first because they were too friendly. Hmmm...they were pecking the...
I'll definitely add a separate roost. There's already a bit of squabbling at roost time. I have about 18 ft on top and have added a 6 foot 2X4 to the next highest rung but I think you're right.
.
I'll get a better pic later today. I tried to copy what you did with what I had available. I attached an 8X4X4 chain link exercise area to the log cabin which I moved up against the barn wall. They now have have a roost and 2 nest boxes in it.
I can lock the 15 out to roam and the 2 new explore...
Well Howdy! sunflour, aart, blooie, two crows, north fl chick! don't run off after sunflour's success. My turn in the barrel! I may need some help! I only brought a squirt bottle to this party!
Integrating 2 RIR's to my established flock of 15.
RIR;s and my hens are very similar ages. 7-9 mos...
I have an idea (guesses) Flock preservation: I found a good roosting place and will call others. Eyesight stinks at night, so they'll call the flock in? But they're in and quiet before the predators come out.

Well yes! Those badges are an honor! I was like for even adding my 2 cents.
I think an article on integrating or re-integrating an adult(s) would be quite helpful. I noticed over the summer so many people that had isolated a bird for illness/injury or gotten a new adult were having an awful...
sunflour, This update is fascinating to me. The low Lillie BO was the problem? Thank you so much for being so gracious in your reply to my suggestions. I shared my suggestions without looking to the left and realizing that this isn't your first rodeo. Me thinks I'm too "Talk-A-Lot on BYC. I'm...
IF you can, I suggest you let her out in the coop/run and lock the other 3 up. do that for a half day or so, you'll see when she has her bearings. Then let one other out with her, hopefully the most passive till they are ok. Maybe a day. Then let one more out...on and on. Couple feeders and...
