Wow, he's massive! He looks like a very willing horse! Is your DD in Pony Club?
I feel like horses are getting taller and taller nowadays. My friend's QH is 17h and I've seen a 17.3 hand Appaloosa!! What is the world coming to when the stock breeds are 16.3+++?!?!
I'd like to know more. For instance, what are the " 46 recommendations to improve the welfare of competition horses"?
And where is this happening?-->" the many thousands of young horses that are killed each year because their minds and bodies cannot take the intense pressure."
How cool! What bloodlines? When I was around 16 I wanted this Dutch gelding really bad, he was by Ferro. The sweetest thing, however he was considered dangerous because he would rear and flip. I think he would have done better in a one person home rather than a big show barn.
If both parents are black, he's got a strong chance of being black too. Maybe he's just doing the lighter baby coat right now only to reveal a darker coat later!
Friesians were the first breed that I was absolutely smitten with.
I think I'm like a complete combination of my parents. My mom loves the Andalusians, and my dad loves the big hunk of chunk Percherons.
The Friesian is kind of both of those two breeds.
It's probably just an East Coast vs West Coast thing. I always seem to find good deals on the opposite side of the country! Near me however, forget about it!
Is there any place local you can trade barn work for rides? Build up a credit! So many hours worked equals 1 lesson! Offer to clean tack, scrub buckets, clean the horse trailer, pick rocks out of paddocks (and poop!), dust cobwebs, turn in, turn out, pick hooves, remove boots, fly masks etc.
All pregnancies are a risk. If the mare is in good health, getting proper care and nutrition it can certainly be considered "safe".
You breed any mare at any age there is always a risk of losing the mare, the foal or both.
If a 19 yo mare has had foals before with no complications or...
That's really neat. In all of my horse ownership, I've never been drawn to getting a Mustang, so I've often wondered what makes people choose them!
Speaking of Misty, have you heard/seen the Beebe Ranch is threatened to be purchased for development? People are trying to save it. Quite sad...
I'm not familiar with QHs but this does seem to be an inflated price. I don't see any info where he may have won some titles or important AQHA type shows...so not sure where the price would get up that high--but I could be missing something.
I will say though, my friend paid more for her QH...
I wonder what is meant by "bottom up" and "top down" that's mentioned in the Paso's ad. That's a new one to me...:idunno
I feel sorry for the little red TB without the eye, and the skinny old buckskin. Actually, all of them. Most need an experienced rider, have little training and are aged...
@ButtonHoarder Sysco looks like my childhood pony, also named Cisco! :love
She was the best horse ever! And I miss her everyday!
Here's my boy, in the mud. We've had really warm weather and lots of rain! Very un-Winter like weather!
I think in the future I want to add some sort of...
