Speaking of odd eggs, I found a small "fairy" or "fart" egg yesterday! It was tiny - I cracked it open today and of course, there was no yolk. My girls must be tuning up after the winter darkness to start laying again. They also molted, so one of the Silver Spangled Hamburgs must be starting...

No problem! My theory on at least some of mine is that the egg was soft when it was laid, and then hardened up after that. Either the hen was still sitting on it, or another hen came along and laid on it and mashed it out of shape. The sharp edges on it came from the hen that laid it, though.

Occasionally, the hen's system will have a glitch and she will lay an egg with the properties of the one pictured in your post. Most of the time, mine lay nice, smooth eggs, but once in a while, I'll get one with weird or misshapen shell. I would not worry too much about it unless all her eggs...
