    Mallard x Buff Orpington Hybrid

    Are their colors sex-linked?
  2. PotatoWaffles

    Mallard x Buff Orpington Hybrid

Do they really? I had no idea. Pretty cool :)

    Mallard x Buff Orpington Hybrid

Well pekin are all white all the time all year round. They're like fat marshmallows :) I thought runners stayed the same color all year too. My Welsh harlequin male never changes color or loses his green head like my mallard does. I always just assumed it was a mallard thing.

    Mallard x Buff Orpington Hybrid

Yea I believe so. My mutts are young too, only about 4-5 months old. But maybe next fall they will eclipse :) maybe though, I don't know if being half pekin or runner will affect their ability to molt into eclipse plumage.

I thought they were pretty too. Maybe he will have eclipse plumage that looks like that :)

    Mallard x Buff Orpington Hybrid

Haha I meant third one. I just edited my post lol. I should start using their names to help with confusion. The third one, Dickie, is the one I'm positive is mallard/runner, and he is the lightest. The pekin/mallard male Frankenduck is by far the heaviest. He is huuuuge. The pekin/mallard female...

    Mallard x Buff Orpington Hybrid

The father of all of them is my one male mallard, Potato. I'm not sure who is the last one's mother. My best guess is the fawn/white runner because his colors are similar to the third one, who I'm positive is fawn & white runner/mallard. I just can't see where else he would get the gray head...

    Mallard x Buff Orpington Hybrid

It has. We have hatched four mutts so far, and based on their features and who was laying at the time, I can make a pretty good guess as to who their parents are. Pekin/mallard (pretty certain) Pekin/mallard (I think, but I I could use outside opinions) Fawn & white runner/mallard (100%...

    Mallard x Buff Orpington Hybrid

Just see if I get some. I don't breed for certain types. Just throw eggs from my mixed flock in the incubator and see what hatches :)
  10. PotatoWaffles

    Mallard x Buff Orpington Hybrid

No idea about this cross, but I am very interested to see if anyone else has any info. I have a buff girl and mallard boy, so this outcome is very possible if I plan on hatching any this year.
