I only have the six Icelandic hens, and two other hens (whose eggs I don't hatch) for a total of 8 girls. I can't really keep 3 boys to 8 girls, I don't think? Right?
I don't suppose any of you have any eggs for sale? I am looking for a half-dozen only. It would be nice to have two lines, and I wouldn't mind a few more girls.
Thanks for your vote. I only kept 6 hens, and was planning on keeping 2 boys to go with. This boy is the one I most definitely wish to keep. He is The King. He runs the show. I am a little worried he might get nasty later. My five-year-old claims he chases her, but I haven't seen it happen.
If blues are rare, I should keep him. I have two blue roosters to choose from. Which would you guys pick?
This is Blair. I chose him for his crest, color, and the fact that he was one of the fastest developing boys.

This one is smaller than the other roosters and has been slower to...
Oh. Turkeys. How I love them. I have some Beltsville Small Whites and they are the most personable of all the birds!
Ok. So, I have a 13-week-old Icelandic and I can't tell if it's a pullet or cockerel. I am so embarrassed. I have looked this bird over carefully, there are no pointed hackle...
Icelander, I like the name Blair. I think we'll go with it.
My Icelandics are certainly elegantly made. I am just surprised that they're so tiny, especially considering the size of the eggs they came from! Of course, I have mostly kept Ameraucanas (true) and Australorps and Barred Rocks. They...
My daughter calls boy #1 "Bluesie" (which sounds to me, like floosie), but I haven't actually chosen a name for him. The speckled one is going by "the speckled one" at the moment.
If you guys have name suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
Here are two more pictures. One of each of the two boys I will keep. I still have 4 boys to butcher, makes me sad. But 6 boys out of 18 hatched isn't bad!
Hi guys,
Thanks for the compliments. I am just bursting with pride.
A question? Are all Icelandics really just a bit bigger than bantams?! Mine are so tiny. They are smaller than some LF phoenixes I have seen!
Drumstick Diva, I am keeping the first boy and the third boy (I am a sucker...
Hi guys,
My Icelandic group from Sheriff Mary is 12 weeks old today. I took some pictures last night, but they didn't turn out great. Some setting is off on my camera and I haven't figured out which it is. Now, all my photos are over-exposed. Regardless, I wanted to show off my babies. I can't...
I sat and evaluated my flock today. I bought eggs from Sheriff Mary. The chicks are about 6 weeks old, and I can finally sex them (I'm TERRIBLE at sexing early). I have *drum roll* 5 roosters and 12 girls. Yay, me. Yay Mary. Yay Mary's old flock!
*happy dance*
I like ALL the boys. Here are...
I would love to see some of your pictures of individual chicks and what they look like as adults. I know Icelandics change a lot as they mature. Do any of you have photos to share?
Here are some photos of my Icelandics from Sheriff Mary! Most of them seem to be roosters, but I am pretty bad at sexing them, so we shall see. I have 17 of them, currently.
A hen, I think.
A big, bold cockerel. He has lovely patches of white on his breast.
Probably a hen.
I want...
Wow, I am impressed at how beautiful this hen is! Do you have pictures of her as a chick? I have some of Sheriff Mary's chicks and I wonder if any of them will look like Bara!
