I don't yet but plan on trying once I get my flock established. From my research they have excellent meat quality (some say similar to beef) but the black feathers are a downfall when plucking so a number of sites suggest skinning them. This time next year I should have greater insight.

I am not positive on all the details but they are a bait fish that is silver in color and is usually larger than you standard minnow. You can purchase them at most bait & tackle stores. I am not sure what type of environment they need to survive though.

Congrats on the babies. I have always wanted a pond so it is part of my 5 year plan Do you have any pointers when maintaining a pond for ducks (5 ducks at most)?

I haven't tested this but have heard that ducks will not sit on 1 egg like a chicken. They will not go broody until they have a clutch that they determine to be the right amount. So if you want a duck to set you have to leave the eggs alone. Again...I am not an expert this is just what I have...

They are 6 weeks and both have stars on their chests. I had seen photos of ducklings from Ideal and knew it was possible so I can't say I was shocked. Basically it was the sacrafice I made b/c I wanted 2 females and with no one in the area that sold sexed ducklings it was my best option...

    Proud Cayuga owners!!!!

I have always seen that white on a cayuga duckling is a DQ for show purposes no matter the sex. I realize that the females do go white as they age but it is supposed to be part of the aging process not their original color. Quality males do not go white ever is my understanding. However, this...

It is easiest to just search for general duck info. You will find general guidelines on mallard derived breeds which Cayugas are. Usually by 6 weeks they are safe to swim unsupervised and be let outside into the elements (with shelter of course) They also have their voice at about 5-6 weeks...

After all this whining. I went outside and did some brain storming. I decided to make the old man a "stud stall" he can sleep seperate and hopefully that helps to keep him from getting pooped on at night :)

I have a drake I offically call "dirty old man" now. But, not around the kids haha We have 2 ducks and 13 chicks that have been in a partitioned area of the coop. When the babes were 5 weeks old and everyone had been ignoring each other I let them into the whole coop while the big birds were...

I have a son the same age and it is just maddening the things they do. (well I have an older son also but he wasn't as "curious" about how everything works)

that sounds horrible. I think cockroaches are more prevalent in areas of warm weather so It would explain why South Dakota and Massachusettes aren't familiar with this. Not that roaches don't exist here just not as common usually only indoors where the temperature is more even. Good luck with...

    Proud Cayuga owners!!!!

My two little girls just got their first swim in the tub (2 weeks). They were very adventurous even diving under the water and swimming across like a torpedo. My last batch wasn't nearly as into the water as these two. I started with 3 but the little crested ducky didn't make it (I did not...

Due to a predator attack I have a single Cayuga Drake. I wanted to get him some girls but could not find anything in the area so I ordered 3 ducklings. I was just wondering how old do you think the girls should be before they are introduced? Would it be better to wait until they are sexually...
