so I found a site that you can buy predator urine to deter other predators, still haven't found dog urine but I think this might work. I think I may buy some and try it out! I'll keep you posted.
The temp is starting to get up there here too finally. They are getting frozen treats on the hot days. I mix fruits and veggies (and a few mealworms) with water and freeze then give it to them. They love it. I also started adding electrolytes to their water again. I'll change to apple cider...
AAHH We went camping this weekend...found someone reliable to watch the chickens...actually two people...and we still drove back Saturday morning to check on them...Everything was good!! Though our chicken sitters don't wake up as early as us so the babes were ready to be let out when we got...
I'm sorry to hear that about Athena. My son just got two easter egger pullets and he named one of them Athena.
That's her on my lap. ( I think) The other is Minerva.
They are both pretty skittish. One of them flew out of the nesting box when Chris went to check for eggs and he almost lost...
So this is Twisted Sister (we have affectionately nicknamed him Twisty!) and we thought at first that it was a pullet but am now thinking he is a cockerel...any thoughts? Anyway he has became my favorite. He's always the most brave and out of the coop first, likes being held, holds his own...
I am so sorry for your loss. It sucks to loose those we care about so much! Don't let guilt ruin your enjoyment of your flock, sometimes things happen and it isn't your fault. You can tell by your pics that your babies have a great life! Keep trying and I hope everything gets better for you.
BABY MONITOR---That's a great idea. We've been thinking a security system with an alert, but I think a baby monitor might just do it. Well off to amazon to shop!! Thanks for the idea!!
We have travel back to see our family the end of august and I actually think that if we can't find a...
Nope we still haven't seen her. She hasn't been in town since we got home. Her dogs are there running loose...probably not being fed either. We found out from another neighbor that her and her son were reported to fish and game for her sons dog killing fawns this spring. Last night the...
That's a good idea Lisa, unfortunately I live in a town of 26 people and all of them are over 60 except one and she's definitely not the reliable sort, and the town is about an hours drive from anywhere so I'm kind of limited as far as my pet sitters go. I do have one gentleman that I think I...
Thank you I'm pretty upset and actually my teenage son had really bonded with our duck Webby and is quite upset. He instantly grabbed the gun and went "hunting" for them.
Well sad news! We went camping for the Fourth of July weekend and upon returning found out that our neighbor who was supposed to be taking care of our chickens didn't at all and something (raccoons, we think judging by the fur left on the gate) got in and got 5 of my 5 month olds and my duck...
That's a great idea! Love the little tufts!! The other one you were asking about is a Swedish Flower Hen. We think it's a rooster! They are calmer than my legbars but the legbars are so cute and fun to watch. Very quick little things!

So sad news we lost our little Bressie "Angel" last night. We had noticed she wasn't acting right shortly after we got her and even had her separated for a while but she seemed to be doing better and we put her back with the other chicks last week and this morning we found her passed away. We...
OK so I finally got a few pics this weekend so I thought I'd throw some up here. Also can anyone tell me where should I go to start a thread about our rescue duck? TIA!
