I use a kitty litter scoop on the poop tray. Shake it a few times, and the excess PDZ falls through. I have wide drywall spatula to scrape up any poops that are stuck to the board. A thick layer of PDZ keeps them from freezing to the board in the winter.

I use Sweet PDZ on the poop board. I scoop up the poop every morning, put it in a bucket, and it goes onto the compost pile. Not much poop ends up in the shavings.
