We started wuth a prefab, its mini run, and a 86"x40"x40" run from amazon...all for three Easter egger chicks. After about $900 invested in coop, run, and security, i decided that the run was too small. I couldnt clean it properly, after tarping, sun didnt reach the chicks, flat roof issues..etc...
