This sounds like my same configuration. I've thought that I could add a poop tray and roost bar OVER the nest boxes if I want. I've noticed that sometimes the lowest of the pecking order roosts on the ledge of the poop tray. As long as that is wide enough to not get pooped on by the hens above...
