    In praise of elevated coops

FWIW I have a small stoop at the top of my stairs. Very useful to have a place for food/water while one opens the door.

IMHO if it is off the ground it is elevated/raised. How high is the real question and I think the key considerations are what best suits both the chickens that use it and, most importantly, the humans that have to look after them. In both cases the height will be sufficient to deter animals...

I know the too many projects thing. Your could use the tongue extension on the front of trailer covered with HC to build a tunnel?

You could exclude the 16" center area by enclosing with HC or even chicken wire and then use HC around the 2' areas?

However, I built it per the original design from the Woods book; 13 panels that can be disassembled with a hard days work (see My Coop pictorial). My current project is a pole shed "cathedral" to house...

Great color! Deterring pests was a big motivation for me. I used 6" of tin with a drip edge on the front between the frame and floor; I have yet to see even a mouse or their excrement in the coop.

    In praise of elevated coops

When I built my coop I decided to elevate it off the ground; rational was twofold - gain more run space and deter pests from easy access to the coop. I researched and decided on 3 feet of elevation, the contours of my location resulted in 3-4 feet underneath the coop, mostly to facilitate easy...
