DE in feed is very common....it's probably it's best, most logical and efficient, application.
It protects stored grains from being infested with grain eating pests.
DE taken internally by food animals won't hurt them.....but it also won't kill any internal parasites the animal might have(as is...
OK, I use Flock Raiser also and had a fresh bag in quarantine out in the garage so grabbed the tag and took a pic....
....and found a pic of an old tag too, from 2014 when it had the 'sunfresh recipe', way different ingredients there.
Don't think they make the sunfresh recipe anymore, couldn't...
I've lost 2 birds to disease and sold 2 more in the last month....
....now have an old hen crowing(started the day her buddy got sick) and several molting(including the crowing hen and the cock) and one presented in hard molt today.
But 4 or 5 of the 10 pullets are laying........lots of changes...
I wonder if the numbers/counts of these organisms on the feces are different from a flock that lives on wood chips and/or deep mixed litter and/or free rangers?
....and I assume that 'fecal cultures' means they grew only fecal samples (not including any tissue or litter) in a heated culture...
Sounds like vicks vapo rub........might help ease respiratory symptoms, but will certainly not eradicate the cause.
Would probably be excellent to actually kill off scaly leg mites tho.
Heartbreaking...Condolences to Terry and Cheryl.
Wonders who many other birds have died, undiagnosed, from this, how common it might be on the wood chipped runs all over the country?
Off to search.
Is it ok to mix the oxy with the nutridrench?
Will be awesome to have that resource available!
I'm sure you'll let them know about the tonic and meds.
Did you have to refrigerate the dead bird?
Maybe they can test the moldy leaves and wood chips too?
Hope they don't find AI.
Hmmm...I wonder what kind of trees...maybe eating the leaves.
I know some leaves are toxic to goats, wilting wild cherry is the only one that comes to mind, but there are several others.
Not sure an antibiotic will counteract a mold issue.
Keep an eye on roost boards, clean everyday to see...
I've given fluids by soaking a qtip in the stuff and holding against the side of the beak, bird on lap and calmed down....it should wick some liquid into their mouths and they should swallow...or the drop might hang off the tip of beak. I also rubbed their neck and under their chins a bit, kinda...
