@comeongetdown I Believe Wardle's chicks come from Fulenwider Farms in Hudson, which is where the chicks at City Floral come from. I bought my first chicks at City Floral, but haven't bought chicks since. My experience is good with Fulenwider. My absolute favorite chicken - an "Americana" /...
@uzisuzuki I do understand, and I'm sorry that you have to slog through all that unpleasantness at work. There is no rush on any of this. I will be gone for nearly 7 weeks later in the year, and can't even consider new birds until I can be home to care for them. I have a great housesitter...
@uzisuzuki Hi Uzi, I Have been thinking that there are many of us in areas that don't permit roosters or cockerels, but so often we get little guys among our purchases of females, and HAVE to get rid of them pdq. A rooster sanctuary that could keep our little guys till they grow big enough for...
Hello Everyone, and Belated Happy Thanksgiving! I'm finally back on the board - it's been crazy busy here at the B&B, but now have no guests until just before Christmas. I couldn't catch up with everything/everyone, but I read back a few pages, and am glad to see all the new names and avatars...
Hello Everyone, and Happy New Year to all of you! Catching up here. WELCOME to the newcomers! I love this thread, and am so grateful for ALL the great posts and good information.
@COChix I would be interested in a Black Copper Marans and in a Blue Ameraucana, but I can't keep babies...
Belated best wishes to all for a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you all had much to be thankful for!
I'm in Durango with my brother for the holiday. He bought a "Heritage" turkey - very little breast meat and big legs and thighs since we all prefer dark meat. But the bird cost him over $100...
The wind today in Denver has been pretty ferocious, but not like 100+ mph! My girls don't seem particularly bothered, and they've been unfazed by the wind. The worst thing that's happened is that Kukie, my Lemon Cuckoo English Orpington had what I think must have been Marek's, and she died this...
Greetings Colorado Earthlings! It feels like I've been lost in space, although tonight I FINALLY caught up on reading all of your touching posts. @uzisuzuki I've been thinking of you lately, since I wound up with a darling, dainty gold-laced Sebright pullet, and have fallen quite in love with...
@21hens-incharge When I had a huge peach crop two years ago, I used my crock pot and made peach butter. I love the spices, and didn't have to use so much sugar. It just cooks down - and down - until it's nice and thick and can then be put in jars.
Whatever you do, I 'm sure it will be...
@COChix
So glad you can stay!! I had this funny feeling that someone in the owner's circle would talk some sense into him/her. You don't just get rid of good tenants, especially for something as "specialized" as your property is.
@intangible04
Your photo of the Mississippi Kite is...
only one Polish girl started & ended some stuff with him. That was funny to watch, tiny Polish hen pushing this gigantic peacock around.
Uzi, I love that these marvelous creatures are finding you - it's like cosmic therapy for your accident and its aftermath.
Thinking about that Mareks article, if vaccinated chooks are "shedding" Mareks into their environments all the time, would that not put all of us in the same situation as Ashdoes? @dretd do you have any information about that?
@suncatcher
Your PBS information about Marek's is really good - much more detailed and specific than what I posted a couple of days ago. I remember reading a question on one of the many forums on BYC about unvaccinated chickens, and that poster received contradictory information: Yes...
Hi everyone,
It's been incredibly busy (summertime in the ole B&B), but I've been trying to keep up with all of you. I'm sorry for all the various losses. My own FiFi, the Black Copper Marans I've had since she was a chicklet, died last Thursday in a really bizarre way. She had no panting...
Hmmm for ice cream here in Denver, there's a place called Liks. They have a Jack Daniels Chocolate Chip that is incredible. At another place called Sweet Action, they have a Stranahan's Whiskey Brickle, which is good, but just doesn't do it like the one from Liks. So come to Denver!
Do you have to worry about pesticides with first-cutting alfalfa? A friend of mine who is an agronomist says it's better to wait for later cuttings, but I don't know if everyone uses pesticides.
Wow! So much going on. I just finished 8 days of posts, trying to catch up. My sympathies, congratulations, kudos, and gratitude to all of you who post and respond so faithfully. My three new girls are doing very well, and everyone seems to be happy. I'll post pictures when I can.
It's high...
