Did I mention it has a built in tape measure. Might be fun to compare to a real one--see how exaggerated it is....that one was this long!
But on the serious side, it has a tare function so I could clear the weight of the basket used for the bunny, and locks the weight reading when it fluctuates...
So you use mostly kitchen style. I have been going back and forth between that and a hanging luggage/fishing type for live weight. Don't know how accurate they are and my kitchen scales are limited to 18oz and 11lb on the larger.
While I'm asking about food, does anyone use a creep feeder for babies? We just ordered the supplies to make a larger cage for the kindling doe and saw one in the catalog. Didn't order, but have been reading about it.
The mill I purchase feed from does have a 26% protein supplement pellet...
Thanks for the info. I will do some inspecting, and I really need to get a scale too. The pellet food is a 17% protein, and they are in the garage so no access to pasture. I will find out, but I bet they're going to be thrilled to get more hay. I have been checking droppings and those seem...
Hey all--question about feeding my silver foxes, so large rabbits. The breeder we got the does from said about a cup per day of pellet feed. So, we have been sticking to that along with a handful of Timothy hay. Thus far, they have gotten only occasional treats such as apple peel (I made pie)...
We are kind of taking the wait-and-see approach to see how it goes before expanding. One buck and two does (that way each girl gets her own to care for). I don't know how much of a market there is for selling offspring here, so we are kind of looking at that as a perk if it happens. Family of...
I had considered that, but since we're just starting, we decided one at a time. We also don't have much for space or extra cages for grow-out for multiple litters at a time. One of the big points to choosing silver foxes was the good mama part, so hopefully all will go well. We just picked up...
Thanks!
At this point, the girls are still cloverbuds so we're primarily bout meat. But, we will be showing in the future. We are only going to breed one doe at a time, so we might just find out if there's a difference later between litter/kit size, etc...as I I breed one soon at 6 months...
For those who have silver foxes--what age do you start breeding both die and buck. We are also just getting started and have a pair of does just shy of 6months. Now we're looking for a buck.
The breeder we got the does from said they're ready to breed. One of the breeders we spoke to today...
