Wow WSmith, that is some serious chicken square footage! Pictures like that are seriously bad for making me want to stay in Denver. Keep em coming :)

Speaking of rosters, what are we going to do with the influx of 'illegal' roosters in Denver? I've had to deal with it on a small scale... the occaisional sexed pullet that start crowing one night. This law is going to spawn a new industry in the city. We need a chicken exchange or something...
Maybe he will change his mind the next time the corporate farms that help pay his salary have their next salmonella scare and it hits a little closer to home. But if no, thats ok too. He's obviously not a champion of self sufficiency and thinks corporate america knows best for his family. He is...
With the new law, I'm planning on getting my flock back up to 5 hens. Unfortunately a fox got to all but one of mine about a year back, he made it into their run at sun up and only my buff orp survived. With just one chicken remaining, and knowing that this law was being proposed, I took a let's...
Holy crap! I just heard about the new chicken ordinance here in Denver. I've been waiting years for this. My girls can come out of hiding finally! This city surprises me sometimes. I wrote letters to several of our city council members and they were all so skeptical. I had almost given up hope...
Bummer... but that's ok, if nothing else I'll get to see all the animals I don't already own

I am pretty sure the birds are already judged but I think they need to remain for the duration of the show. I know last year I was there on the last weekend and the chickens were still...
Anyone heading to the stock show this year? I've been here 20 years and will finally be checking it out this weekend (or monday). Hoping their are a bunch of chickens there, but it looks like the poultry competitions were last weekend, anybody see that?
I don't know if Denver is proposing seperate max amounts for each species, or if they are lumping chickens / ducks for example into the same bucket, but as proposed the new law would allow 6 hens, no roosters. Goats, Ducks and "other animals" as well are mentioned, but no mention of specific...
Fortunately I already went through this pain last year, so I'm already permitted and fingerless
It helps to have the signage out when it's -10 degrees outside during a blizzard until this changes. It's not my fault if the sign is obscured by a layer of ice and snow
Agree with that too. but I definitely prefer leaving the table with 1 hand vs. none right? Removing the zoning piece would be like leaving me with 1 hand plus a stump with a couple fingers on it, lol. The zoning piece is the biggest P.I.A of it all. I have no probs with getting a permit, just...
Hey guys, new survey from the city on allowing chickens in Denver. Please respond to it if you can. We need all the help we can get.

I'll cross post this in the how to change chicken laws thread as well.
Thanks!

I'm going to be adding a light this weekend, they went from 3 to 4 eggs a day total, to 1 if I'm lucky. Lately, I haven't even been getting that... One of my chickens started molting too, so it's going to be slim pickens for a while. I may also have the most snow-paranoid chickens in the state...
Wow, anyone else see this?

Hopefully nobody here was involved...
On a completely unrelated note, my chickens aren't laying much anymore either, I think they are going on strike or something. They see 1 inch of snow on the ground...
Welcome Starrysun
The closest hatchery of any size that I know about is in New Mexico..

My chickens came from there. Care of a feed store in Brighton.

It sounds like you are looking for more chickens? If...
I think I'll have to check that out if it's still going this weekend. I own some land near Alamosa county and sounds like the fair is half way between Denver and there, great excuse to go camping and hit up the fair Thanks for letting us know about it.

Had a funnel cloud in my neighborhood, never touched down thankfully, but this area is minus a few trees now. On the positive side, I might get a new roof out of it, was picking up shingles all over my property before work. Not a scratch on the chicken coop

Thanks for the update, Rockpile! Very interesting to get the details.
Is anyone else concerned by the beans at this concentration? My understanding is that raw they contain harmful amounts of trypsin which both inhibits protein absorption and can damage the pancreas. Anyone know...
Just back from Walker's. They buy their DE in bulk and make up a bunch of misc. size bags. was 4 dollars and some change for a 3 pounder. Can't beat that Thanks again Rosemary.
