The weather out here is wonderful today! We are suppose to be in the low 80's all week and then "cool" off to 55(low of 30 that night) sometime and then back up we go! I will not plant warm weather crops yet... I will not plant ......
Feeling pretty lucky then out here... a little bit of rain today and lots of high winds... but no SNOW!!!! Yippie... I should really get out and check on the chickens though.... bundle up time.
Let's see... we went from Thunderstorms to sleet/hail pellets to snow, back to rain and now in a lull. Nothing covering our ground right now other than a bunch of MUD. The chickies wanted to know why I didn't open up the coop.... then I gave them some scratch and they really didn't care anymore...

Haha! We look to the right and see Colorado Springs with black, HUGE towering thunderheads... look to the left to the Wet Mountains and not much
We can see how dark it is out your way from out here on the prairie. Heard about the hail on 105.5... I'm sure we'll get it later tonight. I chased the chickens in early today wen it started to cloud up... but then the sun came out again... so they think I'm just plain nuts now. I just don't...
Yep- It was Easter ... and it "is" chick season. Went to Big R today to pick up some chick starter/grower and they were completely out of it. Bought some scratch for the older kiddos (12 weeks now) and will have to check back next week. Have just enough chick feed to get the three 7 week olds...
Hey Wifezilla-
Where and when is the meet-up again? I'd like to swap out a few 8week/9week SLW/GLW hens and a Red roo for some other types... anyone else interested in swapping with me?
Looking for some birds that will lay some colorful eggs. My peeps (and I'm not talking birds) are...
Hey Katherine-
I know a lot of us at least have a heat lamp in our coops in the winter months. This allows for minimal warmth should the temps get nasty (below 32). BUT- there are a lot of old farmers who say if you have enough chickens, they can keep each other warm. But I spoil mine. They get...
Haha- I went out to check on them and got the evil eye from all 8.... the "What are you thinking leaving us out in this kind of weather? You think that heat lamp and oil heater count for warmth?!"
They were indoor chickens until it warmed up the last few weeks. This was their first night out in...
Pueblo West here... at least 6 inches if not more. AS you all said, hard to tell with the drifts. My kiddos (and chickens) are tired of being cooped up. Will have to go out and shovel out the coop door sometime this morning to check on everyone.
UPDATE: I cannot believe how spoiled my birds are. I actually went out in this yuck to check on them. They looked annoyed that I had woken them up. But! I did discover a cold wind leak that I promptly staple-gunned an empty feed bag over. Plus checked to make sure the oil heater was working well...
Yep- now it's here. Blowing crazy too. First it blows to the right.... then to the left.... hope my husband will get home from work. They were suppose to have a late meeting at 5pm.
Have to agree- first we're getting 5 inches, then a blizzard, now maybe it's too far south to give us much of anything. Just have food, blankets, and no major plans. We'll play it by dawn's early light on Friday
They just approved wind turbines out here in Pueblo West. You can't set up a giant one... but the under 30' ones are OK. Today we are easily gusting 40mph... about every other 10 seconds! I read the turbines shut down over 50mph and something about shutting down if the power grid in your area...

Yep- just finished a batch of eggs and lost 1/2 to the air cells being too large (lack of humidity) even tho the bator said 40-60% the first 18 days and then 80% the last three. The chicks that did make it needed help getting out because the shells would dry and stick to them before...
