That definitely sounds like your humidity is too high! Are the hatched chicks fluffing up? I'd keep ventilation open for sure, as far as I know it's not supposed to be reduced even during lockdown because of how important oxygen is to be new chicks. But I suppose your mileage may vary! I had to...
You can leave them a little longer than 24 hours if necessary :) and the gunk could just be poop from when it was hatching! And leftover umbilical residue. From what I've read anyway!
No external pips until day 21! Out of my 3 viable eggs 2 hatched within 24 hours. I had to wet the membrane on one and totally didn't see that a second egg was already zipping! She wound up being bound by the membrane and I helped her out and got her sufficiently wet. Both are healthy :) the...
I used a brinsea mini advanced with the factory settings. When I ran it for the day before I set my eggs it's temp was accurate. I don't have a good way of keeping the humidity up.
All but 2 eggs were good at day 7. I didn't wind up checking again until day 18 and I only have one egg remaining...
Candled today, Day 18
One, possibly two eggs still viable. Not sure what or if anything went wrong.
Quite upset about it. :( I suppose it is backup chicks for me in March when the local breeders start selling.
Day 7 update.
3 viable eggs
1 possible blood ring (fairly confident will monitor over the next three days)
3 that might be clears, but it could also be my amateur eyes and not strong enough flashlight.
Good luck to you both!
I will likely candle again at day 7 and 14 and then leave them alone until they hatch! As long as the air cell progression is going well I don't think I'll be able to rectify much in the last 4 days...
I definitely candled on day 3... And now I am impatiently waiting until day 7! Haha. SO tempted to try again tonight (day 5) to see if I can see anything vascular... But I don't want to over handle my babies!
