On the contrary, I have a flock of Lakenvelders which includes nine hens. I get 6-8 eggs every day. They only took a very short break during the winter. I find them to have a good feed ratio. They are a small LF and actually eat much less than my Campines which are a very similar in size.

If you don't have a copy of the APA Standard of Perfection, I'd suggest you could look at the photos of Henk's birds for very good examples. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/479567/calling-all-lakenvelder-owners

Welcome to the thread. First study a picture of the ideal Lakenvelder. Imprint that outline in your mind. Then study your birds for who comes closest to that ideal. Once you've narrowed down your choice, then look for the cleanest markings. Blackest black and whitest white. Good luck.

They are a great free ranging bird, but like said above they prefer to sleep in the trees. I also raise campines and they would probably be a bit better at returniing at night. Any bird is dual purpose, in that any bird can be eaten (the orient praises silkie meat and they are a bantam)...

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with her. Her body is pretty clean also. I'd just like to clean up the edging on her tail a bit.

Oops, sorry. This thread had fallen so down on my list of active threads, this is the first I've seen your question. Yes, I have eggs. I collect about six per day and they are all LF. I do show my birds. In fact, at the last show I overheard the judge tell his...

I also have hatching eggs from my LF exhibition lines, I only have silver. I've sent out several dozen recently and they've all reported 100% development Deb

Yes, I literally spread them around, IL & FL and I have some going to another part of CA. You should see my pen with bantam cochins. I swear the feathers come up over your shoes when you walk, how can three tiny birds throw so many feathers and not be bald? Deb

Oops, sorry, I just found your post. Everyone looks pretty pathetic at the moment, molting and feathers everywhere. I'll see if I can get some pictures. I was looking at one of the pullets a few minutes ago and her markings are starting clean up. I was sizing her up for a show coming up in...

I only have the silvers, but I have two distinct exhibition lines. They are one of my favorite breeds and didn't want to back myself into a corner genetically. They are truly beautiful and need more people to champion them! Deb

Very cute chick! I have six silver eggs ready to lockdown next week. They are my fertility test on my pullet eggs. I set the first egg I got and that was the only one that didn't develop. Then I put in these six and they have all developed. Right now I'm getting two eggs per day, but I...

I'll try to get some pictures taken. Most of mine are fairly young, 6 mos or so, so their colors haven't finished cleaning up. I do have some that are almost there. Deb

I have about 25 of them, some are wilder than others. When I was picking out a bird to take to State Fair, the first one I selected was very calm. The second one I chose screamed the entire time I was looking it over. I ended up taking the second one. It was a three day cooped show. It was...

I thought I'd share a picture of one of my cockerels. His markings are just starting to clean up. Deb
