    I use 1/2 inch pvc and screw mine in all the time and they don't leak, you have to thread the 3/8 hole with a tap and dye or a fine thread bolt

    5 gallons of water weighs 40 lbs, mine slipped one time and killed a great bird. I attach pvc to the bucket and nipples to the pvc.

    congrats, consider drilling and taping "slip connectors " they are stronger than the pipe

    I use a steel bolt to thread my 3/8 hole, or use a tap and dye set. I drill into a 1/2 pvc coupler .I water about 100 chickens this way

    Use a steel bolt to force threads into the pvc and if it gets to big, use teflon tape wrapped around the threads
