Lol I just figured I'd throw that in there. Most of the other ways you can't tell until they are quite a bit older. In the beginning my polish crest all looked the same. Saddle feathers won't come in until closer to 10 to 12 weeks. Sometimes later. I've just found the comb to be the earliest way...
That is definitely a roo. Girls won't start getting any wattles until close to 16 weeks. Any chick that gets red before 10 weeks is a rooster. Wyandottes are very easy to sex depending on the age. If you post a pic I should be able to tell. :)
Do you trim his crest? They are prone to running into things. It sounds like a pretty bad concussion to me. I would advise finding a vet if you can. I'm not really sure how you would treat that at home.. :(
They both look like pullets to me but its still early. Neither look like they have beards which makes them easier to sex. Watch for red wattles to develop. The boys get them pretty early. I haven't noticed my females getting them but I've seen some pics where they have small ones. My females are...
Some people don't have problems mixing them but my polish get picked on alot by non crested chickens. They don't always mix well with others because they like to pluck feathers out of their crest. Not always but depending on your chickens personalities it may not be a good fit. :(
Just wanted to share a recent pic of chicken little. He has decided he hates flip flops lol. They are evil and he will kill them all lmfao. It cracks me up... :P
We have an older easter egger girl who has like ibs. It's not all the time but certain treats give her diarrhea. It sticks to her feathers around her vent. How do I trim them to help keep them clean?
I use dish soap. I use the sensitive unscented. I bathe mine in a warm bathtub or sink. I haven't had to blow dry yet because of our temps being so high but I'm sure I will if I bathe them this winter. I also don't bathe them regularly. Only if needed like they get into something sticky or as...
Does you guy have problems with eye moisture? Mine had long feathers like that and it started getting moist around his eye. I started trimming his hair which I suppose is good. He walked into things also lol. But I would love am alternative...
I would say they are like any other chicken. Their are good ones and the occasional bad apple. Out of all the ones we have had, we only had one rooster get aggressive. His brother is sweet as pie and all the girls are very loving. :)
