Thanks junebuggena! That was the one question gnawing at me. What you say sounds true. Next time I order chicks, I won't name them or get attached until I know for sure. ;)

It goes to show that folks don't even know what THEY have. Or what their breeds are. The person I got these from said they were all Aracauna mixed. But I picked up three more chicks yesterday, two Polish and one silver-laced wyandotte. Now I KNOW for sure what breed it is. :)

So is there any chance that this one is a pullet? I mean, do pullets ever have their combs turn red by 9.5 weeks? Or is it pretty much a dead give-away that it's a cockerel when it's red by 8 weeks (it reddened up between 7 and 8 weeks of age). Thanks!

I thought the mahogany feathers may be a dead giveaway. I read that somewhere recently. So three of my five are cockerels then. So much for the expert knowing when I got them. :)
