Mottled Silkie with Blue/Green eggs Project.

Hi Everyone, Sorry about not replying for so long. I have an update. Soon after my last update in Dec 2020, I had a predator and a unknown illness go through my flock and I had to shut the project down. I was told to wait a few years to get more chickens in case the illness was in the soil...

Mom was pure mottled pekin and dad was 3/4 silkie and 1/4 pekin mottled carrier. i think one of the chicks is half aracauna. When they are at breeding...

The normal girl at the front on the pics is one of my favorites and the one with the silkie feathers and giant puff is the other fav. Although as you can see the one at the front has a bluish lased look. Don't know were that can from. She super gorgeous no matter what.

Mottled Silkie with Blue/Green eggs Project.

Hi everyone, Chicks are now over 12 weeks old and going well except for one of the young roosters and of course he's one of my favorites that I was planning of trying to breed him with the f2 hens once they reach breeding age. Some of the hens are looking really good for breeding.

The mother for the F2 gen was a black silkie so there is only a 1/4 chance the any of them will have it. I will have to do test mating's to see who has the gene and who does not. I have also been following the other thread about mottled silkies and it looks like its been going great.

Update One of my f2 roosters is finally breeding age and I've put him in with my mottled pekin hen and will soon start doing some test batches, to see if he carries the mottling gene. The second batch that I hatched out from the f1 rooster is now over 10 weeks old and I have 6 girls and 6 boys...

I'm breeding in the Aracauna now because I want to save time later. if I do it now, than I will only have to do the selective breeding process years once. Instead of breeding them to almost perfect than crossing in the araucana and having to start the whole selective breeding process a second time.

Hey exciting news, I finally got 2 black aracauna hens to use in my project. Their 4 months old right now. Can't wait to see what colour eggs they will lay. Was told they will lay anything from blue to a dark green. Also can't wait to breed them with my F1 boy.

Chicks are 6 weeks now. 8 boys and 2 girls Only 1 of the girl chicks is the right black colour. Do I use the other girl as well, she is a grey laced colour. I know there is only a 1/4 chance my black girl does carries the mottled gene. Not sure what to do?

Mottled Silkie with Blue/Green eggs Project.

I just have a thought. What if I breed my F1 boy to my black Silkie girl. Then breed his daughters f2's back to him, they will be 3/4 silkie. Since he carry's both the silkie and mottled genes and half his daughters will carry the mottled gene as well as some being silkie feathered. I should get...

Need advice Soon after my first batch of chicks hatched my mottled hen passed away. So I bought some replacement hens but none of the hens seem to be laying eggs right now. So my project is at a stand still. I have thought an option to do until my new pekins start laying. Put my black F1 male in...
