    I wouldn't use kitty litter just in case. There are ways to keep mites away. Flies, you use barn fly catcher and vanilla car freshener.

    thank you. Could I use this mixed with DE? I heard DE really helps. I will spray walls with deodorizer (orange peel recipe) then floor with straw or sand. Hubby not sure about sand either.

    it is great for less cleaning, almost like you are creating a compost. im still learning and reading up on it but several ladies here vouch for it only. some are 4 inch deep and others are deeper. i believe the bedding is the normal pine shavings...

    thank you for your response :) it is a complete wood coop so I'm kind of worried. don't the chickens slide on the vinyl floor? or is it completely covered? I've heard of the deep litter method and very curious. Is one area always worse than others?
