Funny story to tell you guys.
My red hen, the one that laid the eggs that the white hen sat on and hatched, has cut Rickmoff for some reason. Every single egg is infertile.
Now this am Ricky was chasing her, but poor guy with only one eye runs into everything.
He was trying so hard to get...
Ok guys, here's the official photo of the FOUR new babies, and I also have a question about my hen that hatched them, need some advice if anyone can help, please.
She has no interest in getting off the nest, even though there's nothing there, therefore, the chicks just want to stay under her...
If you mean the hen and not me, she's on the nest hatching the other 4, one is pipping right now.
I'm so excited, I had to come into town, I can't wait to get back home!!
Rick's a daddy!!!!!
I can't stand the cuteness and cried like a baby when I found the chick. He pipped this am and was out by 5!
Thanks again guys for all the support, glad I didn't give up on him!!!
Hey guys!
I wanted to update on Rick almost 3 weeks later.
He is doing great, still only has one eye, but that's not stopping him, and all the proof I needed was when I candled my broody silkie hens eggs last night, she's stealing the other hen's eggs also, so she's got 8.
All are developing...
I love my chickens too! I had to go into town today, and I just wanted to get back to the farm!
Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm hoping that this thread will let people know to not give up on a badly injured pet. I cried even 3 days into it because I was convinced he wasn't going to...
He has one that's normal, and the bad one is still part way open. I'm going to work on it this evening to see if there's any progress.
He's such a happy guy now, I has to get my husband to get a pic if us.
I'll try to take a close up of his eye tonight.
We are thinking it's a rat, whatever it was went underneath the fence and attacked, and went back out that way.
There was a lot of feathers, Rick's especially at that spot.
Now all the wire is buried big time, 2 feet into the coop. We still know anything can happen.
Is it normal for roosters...
I checked in the peeps tonight after I locked the coop because the chicks just all the sudden got very quiet after begging to go to bed for awhile, and I couldn't believe Rick had all 4 of them, 2 sex links bigger than him and two almost mature silkies under and around him in one if the nesting...
Thanks guys! He sure is doing good , I worked on the bad eye today, and it's open partially but it looks like there is an inner eyelid covering it halfway, still.
Ain't affecting his mojo though!
Thanks kirikiki for those kind words!!!
Thank you to everyone else also!
My husband felt so guilty last night, he actually said that he thought I would be more upset. All these little incidents are making me stronger!
I have my favorite chick, his name is Boaz, after the Bible character, and...
He died 2 hours later, man that was awful...
On a much, much brighter note, Rick mated both of my hens yesterday several times!!!
We were in the pen/coop all day, so we saw it all
It's one of my chicks, and I think he's a roo.
I took a clean Qtip and pushed them back in.
He acts very tired, he's wrapped up in a towel. Can I give electrolytes IM?
Thank you so much for the advice, I feel so guilty right now...I know accidents happen, and we were working hard to make...
I need urgent help again,
We are redoing the pen and coop, and the door came down on one of the silkie chicks and flattened him.
His intestines are hanging out of his rear, I pushed them part ways back in.
Is there anything to be done, I can do? I will look it up as soon as I have time...
It's pouring down rain today, and Rick is not standing up.
Of course he's right out in it.
I just checked on him, and we are just a little worried.
Could the rain be making him feel bad ?
