I bought a Brandywine plant yesterday. After reading about them here and then finding one I'm excited to give them a try.

Also we have lots of wind here on the coast so we take 5 gallon buckets, cut the bottom out and put those over our plants until they grow to the top and then we replace the bucket with wire hoops.
I have a question, what do you all put around your tomato plants? Last year we used the thin black cloth but I can't say I really liked it. All our plants are in the ground and now we need to put something on the ground to prevent weeds but also allow water to be absorbed evenly.

That's not good to hear, my husband was looking for Lemon Boy plants and came across the Yellow Pear so he thought we'd try them. Our very favorite is Carnival and we can't find them anywhere. We planted them for years and had tons of wonderful size and taste tomatoes.

Here on the coast of Texas we like Carnival (which are very hard to find now) and last year we tried Lemon Boy and really liked them so we bought some more. I planted them yesterday. We also plant Celebrity, Early Girl and Better Boy. This year we're also trying some Yellow Pear plants.
