Well today I did my first supervised visitation of chicks with existing flock and after a rocky few min of the rooster telling them to stay in their pen and me telling the rooster to leave them alone we had a good time of everyone ignoring one another before I decided I was ready to be done...
So, my new babies are brooding in the coop with no ability to leave their brooder, but today I saw them acting like they wanted to get out to interact with the bigger chicks. Any suggestions on when I should make them a hole to use to go in and out of their safe zone?

6 one day olds, I will be mostly worried abt their heat need. I can make adjustments to keep everyone cooler if that need arises, but it's a guessing game abt overnight temps in MI summers.

Newbie question, I am going to get 6 day olds the week of July 18. My current teens reside in the barn. Good ventilation, but not drafty. There is PLENTY of room to brood these babies out there. How worried will I have to be abt heat? I am in MI and July and Aug are usually very warm.
