Quote: Just keep looking on here or look at www.apppa.org for PVC designs, hoophouse designs. Everyone has their own opinions and will be happy to share what works well for them. I dont think any particular setup works for everyone. I cant take all the credit for the wheel design. Jaku on the...

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=454217 That is the link to my full page of building a metal pen. I have a dolly for my 1 year old pen and that is what was putting so much strain on it that is going to force me to rebuild a lot of it this year. That is why I went with...

I agree with the 90 birds per pen also. I did that all last year and it worked great. Plenty of room for birds, grass eaten down at the correct level and nitrogen levels worked out just right.

That was a pen from a year ago. Have you seen my newly designed aluminum Salatin pen? No dolly required with a simple wheel design. Cost a little more but will last many many more years. The pen pictured in this post already needs a lot of work this year putting it back together. 1X4s are not...

If you look at any of the pictures of the Polyface pens you can tell they are not over crowded at all. He has done this for many many years and would be the first one in line to be against over crowding any type of animal in that manner. They are open and honest to any questions or comments and...

The website for Fresh put me on a waiting list for when the DVD gets released. I didnt mean to imply it was coming out at the movies. I am going to the screening in Rock Hill SC next month. Looks really great.

Its actually all 1x3 lumber. I was pretty worried until the last braces, roof and wire went on then it got pretty sturdy. I coated all the wood in boiled linseed oil (trying to use something more natural) as a preservitive. Good to know on the water because I work 24 hour shifts (Paramedic). I...

Here is a picture I found of Joel's to where you can see the dolly, waterer and how you move it.

Thats a little over a square foot per bird. Joel suggests 90-100 birds. not more and not much less. I dont have the book in front of me to explain exactly why not less. I would assume you can ask on here for the square footage per meat bird for a smaller pen. I would think a smaller one would...

I havent used it yet. The chicks just arrived today. We have our share of Skunks, Coons, Opossums and Coyote here. If I start having problems I will be putting an electric fence around mine. My charger is battery power. As far as letting the birds out, NO... This pen is made to be moved to a...

I should have kept up with the cost to help out but I would say around 200. The tin was expensive when I could have used that white material for all of it.
