Some feather do show up on birds sometimes. If you were going to Breed them for show quality, it would not be up to standard but that is not important if you are going for production.

Germany is a good choice! Breeding to SOP would be for those that want to show them in competition. Breeding to SOP and mess up both meat and egg production too.

I love the Pita pinta Hens! They are smart and friendly. I baked a no knead sourdough loaf on Sunday and yesterday I baked cinnamon rolls and and a chocolate cake for Christmas. Sourdough is wonderful!

The hours of daylight are a bit low. You can up the fertility of the rooster by getting between 12 and 14 hours of light for them. Otherwise, wait until spring to hatch eggs.

I hatched my in the spring so do not know about winter. Mine are still laying eggs though and that is a good sign that they are active and hopefully fertile in the winter. What part of the country did the eggs come from? hours of light will lower the fertility of the cockerel.

My Pita Pinta Hens out in the back yard last week. The black hen is a University of Arkansas Blue egg layer.

They are pretty, but I am partial to black mottled chicken breeds. I also like the black blue and splash breeds.

It is black mottled like black mottled cochin or ancona.

I have not had a broody with the ones I hatched years ago. They are not from Green Fire though.

The do very well here though-- we do not freeze here
