Will see how it goes, I am impressed so far with her, the true test will come when she's introduced to the flock and starts free ranging with them. tight now she is being assertive enough that the pullet 3 weeks older doesn't pick on her without the little roo that hatched with her. But they are...
Thanks Momma is Buff Orpington and Rooster is Barred Rock, think she will definitely be more camoflauged for free ranging. She's got the sweet docile disposition of her mama. She will stand up a bit better for herself though.
Heres an update, we finally decided to call her sweatpea as she took after the BO hens temperment, still hasn't gone outside though as to harsh temps right now. the little roo that hatched with her has gone to it's new home already
They will do fine with chicks so they aren't alone, we took home a lone duckling in the spring with our chicks it looked so sad wouldn't eat or drink just laying there. Turned out to be a drake but he's still playing momma to the the hens and roosters. Funny to watch him try to get up to perch...
the 2 that made it are doing good but apparently one is going to have to find a new home:(
This one doesn't have a name but she's sure cute, this is outta the BO hen and BR roo
This little BR guy will be looking for a new home
well finally got the lone survivor of hatch before this one together with the 2 new ones from 5 days ago so they are learning her to socialize a little as a chicken, tried to take her out to a hen who wanted to momma her and she wasn't having anything to do with that tried climbing up my leg...
heres the 2 that made it at 3 days old but they are trying to eat everything including the paper towel now, the runt caught up to the other chick in short order as was only half the size of the first out on the left
Sadly the one finished absorbing her yolk but both died, on a good note the first 2 out are doing awesome both are eating and drinking good and hobbled one is getting around much better
GL southern, just doing what I can for the 2 that were still alive trying not to stress to bad egg yolk on one that is out is about absorbed now, but seems real weak, or maybe it's just exhausted and taking a nap as she's breathing albeit shallow ,while it finishes, crosses fingers
any ideas from someone with more experience than me
Had to assist on day 22, 2 mal-positioned chicks due to low humidity issue sometime between day 15-17, fixed situation when I got home and upped the humidity to 65-70% from day 17-22. Did a check as already had 2 chicks hatched and most had...
I have paper towel even in the incubator, it's added when I take the turner out and use it in the brooding pen too, didn't have this issue last hatch but only 1 hatched
Grats Chonsey they are adorable.
My first of 26 is out finally out and occasionally trying to walk, seems one leg wants to go out really far though, is this just cause she was just hatched or should I deal with it now?
Ideas anyone? last time I waited to long she's almost 12 hours with no progress, chirp seems to be getting weaker. Should I help a little? as there was low humidity for unknown amount of time just before lockdown
Grats on hatch there Iamboeder and chonsey
one is making progress after pipping but the first one to pip isn't making any getting nervous, my 3 week old chick is calling to them though as she can hear em in the bator, she escaped and was trying to peck her way into the brooder lol
how long...
gl Jchicken, this is I think the hardest part of the hatch, son looked at me funny when told him to go get me a case of suberglue so I wouldn't keep looking in the window to see how things are progressing. so hard to have patience when you know your almost to the finish line. The one that pipped...
day 21, think this is the hardest day, you gotta be patient, see a pip this morning and heard a big crack so one obviously pipped on underneath side. Hopefully will have good news by tonight and pics to show you all
