what is this on my game-cam?

Not so many on here are actually saying there are no panters/cougars/mountain lions in the area, alot of us are just saying that the picture isn't of a cougar. The size is just too small to be a cougar.

what is this on my game-cam?

That first picture must be our mystery animal. Skinny legs, white belly with distinct line to brown body, long tail ... See how it has mutated to a new camoflage technique that does not allow the taking of clear pictures. The tail is now nearly invisible to the camera.

what is this on my game-cam?

Quote: Thank you for the link! I love the silhouette of the different cats. I wonder if the OP is very crafty, they could make a silhouette of a house cat/gray fox size and see how it visually matches up. Its one thing for me to measure saying its 13 or 14 inches high and 40 inches long and...

what is this on my game-cam?

xxGypsy - thank you for taking my analysis so much deeper. I have used your system of analysis too frequently, my family think I am too weird to be making index cards with various holes inorder to isolate certain aspects of a picture. While I do not have much artistic talent, this system has...

what is this on my game-cam?

Quote: Thanks for the series of photos put together! Folks - look at the pictures: 1 & 2 - if you ignore the tail and they look like the exact same animal. Skinny legs, white underbelly all the way up to the jaw, white of the inside of the ear, sleak body (photo #2 looks well fed! )...

what is this on my game-cam?

I will chime in again and say I don't believe it is a couger. Unfortunately, I don't think you will be able to convince me otherwise unless you can produce a photo of a cougar that has skinny legs. Yes the color looks right - on a game cam photo taken at night. But, this animal is not very...

what is this on my game-cam?

Quote: Well, actually, they are both from the same genus "Lynx", it just that the common name for the canadian lynx is "lynx" and the other species is called a bobcat. Don't feel bad, there are many people who think they are the same animal. I had to educate a guide at a wildlife refuge...

what is this on my game-cam?

Quote: But it is not that big. It is smaller than her blue heeler, just compare the pictures. And if it was a young cub to be that small, its legs and body would be much thicker and heavier with massive paws. Edited to add: Check out post #250 for a comparison of the photos side by side...

what is this on my game-cam?

I finally found a minute or two to do a comparison. I copied one of the original pics and the pic of the blue heeler into the program. Drew a line from front paw on the dog and copied the exact same line over to the mystery animal and pasted it onto the similar area on it. Did the same with...

what is this on my game-cam?

I didn't vote for fisher because all the fisher I have seen are black. Otherwise the size and shape is about right.

what is this on my game-cam?

I would say young fox as first guess. But if not that, then I would say it is a big housecat or one of those wildcats you guys have around there. Legs look too thin for house cat, and everything but tail fits a fox. And young fox do have stringy looking tails. So I say FOX.

what is this on my game-cam?

Here is the comparison that I am talking about: The orange boxes are all the same size in both photos.

what is this on my game-cam?

If you compare the second to the last picture and the picture of the crows, you can see that it is not that much bigger than the crows. Definately not panther sized - even a young panther. I have seen housecats bigger than that - ok, only one, but that one was huge. It was my cousins cat...
